Last summer, instead of sitting on our asses watching movies and hanging out in malls while pigging out, my friends and I decided to go for a summer retreat to a friend's cabin house in the woods of Minnesota. We packed our skis and snow board just in case the slopes were not to rough. We swore not to use any electronic device aside from cellphones: no television, handheld video consoles, mp3 players and TiVo. We decided to get in touch with nature and spend our days without the distractions of the modern, technological world. After I finished some essays on the human condition, I joined my friends as we explored the woods and it was really nice to see trees instead of shopping malls and pollution. But the fun part is when my friend's boyfriend brought out paintball guns and boxes of ammo he rented from a mutual friend's shop. I was apprehensive at first because we had no protective gear to protect us, just goggles and our own bundle of coats and jackets. But as soon as the first shot was fired, we were caught up in frenzy and was shooting and laughing our way in the deep woods. I was amazed at how adept I was as I got a couple of headshots and peppered most of them with my signature purple bullets. We shot it out for the rest of the summer, only stopping to eat, drink and sleep and get down to town for more ammunition. Shooting it out with my friends was certainly way better than any movie marathon!
